In the words of my coach & mentor, Sue Knight “How you do one thing in life is how you do everything in life”. It is the element of excellence which inspires all of us-whether it’s a work of art, sports, or a business product.
This profound learning ignited my quest for seeking excellence and how I can imbibe excellence in different areas of my life. I have learnt to model excellence from entrepreneurs, artists, speakers and even kids to imbibe it as part of my professional and personal life. Even last week, my daughter said something which struck me “Papa, I like to cherish and enjoy every bit of ice-cream by eating slowly because I like it so much.” What a profound insight if we apply it in the context of life?
Whether it’s Leonardo da Vinci meticulously painting the Mona Lisa, Beethoven composing his symphonies despite his deafness, or Maya Angelou crafting words that resonate across generations – it is their personal passion and excellence which shines through. “It is not What we do that matters, it is How we do What we do. The difference between ordinary and extraordinary lies in How. “This is how these great artists differentiate themselves by pouring their heart and emotions into work which transforms a simple painting into a piece of timeless art and brings out their uniqueness.
Just as an artist infuses their creations with passion and soul, leaders embed their decision and products which stand out from the competition. Whether it’s guiding a team meeting or preparing the proposal pitch presentation, our authenticity and personal experiences shines through, painting a vivid portrait of our uniqueness.
Let’s cultivate a mindset of excellence so whatever we do has the personal touch of our authenticity and passion. It will eventually sprinkle into all areas of life because remember how we do one thing is how we do everything in life.
